Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan made a notable appearance in India for the premiere of his latest film, The Odyssey, held in Mumbai on Friday.
Accompanied by cast members Tom Holland and Matt Damon, Nolan engaged with the media and expressed his gratitude for their presence, while also inquiring about the audience's reception of the film. During his address at the premiere, following the screening of The Odyssey, Nolan remarked, “I am coming to Mumbai again! This is not the first time I am here in Mumbai. But it is the first time that we get the chance to launch a film here. So you are among the first audiences in the world to see this film!” His enthusiasm was palpable as he stood alongside Holland and Damon, who shared in the excitement of the moment. Nolan then playfully asked the audience, “By the way, did you like the film?” to which the crowd responded with loud cheers. He continued with a light-hearted question, “Who is better? Matt or Tom?” The actors smiled at the playful banter, while the audience cheered for both stars. Nolan praised both actors, stating, “They are both fantastic. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you for welcoming us. It is always a thrill to be in India.” The Odyssey, which has been filmed across multiple countries using newly developed IMAX technology, is notable for being the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX cameras. The film's India premiere is scheduled for July 10 and 11 in Mumbai, just days before its global theatrical release on July 17. This marks Nolan's first film following his Academy Award win for Best Director for Oppenheimer, which featured Cillian Murphy in the lead role. Based on Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey chronicles the perilous journey of Odysseus, portrayed by Matt Damon, as he strives to return home after the Trojan War. Battling various challenges, including monsters and temptations, Odysseus relies on his wit and endurance to reunite with his wife, Penelope. Tom Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, adding depth to this timeless tale of adventure and resilience.
