Marvel Studios' blockbuster Avengers: Endgame has once again secured its place at the top of the global box office charts. The film has officially overtaken
James Cameron’s Avatar, reaching a worldwide lifetime gross exceeding $2.925 billion. This shift in the all-time rankings follows a strategic re-release of the superhero epic, which provided the necessary momentum to surpass the previous record held by the science-fiction hit. The re-release, marketed as the Encore version, has played a pivotal role in this milestone. While the film’s domestic performance during its second three-day weekend saw a decline of approximately 83.1%—earning $4.4 million—it remained a significant contributor to the movie's overall financial trajectory. This domestic figure placed the film at number seven in the North American rankings, bringing the total domestic earnings of the re-release to $36.2 million.
Global Performance and Box Office Context
Internationally, the Encore version maintained a steady presence, pulling in $14.4 million during its second weekend. Despite a 76% drop from its re-release opening, the international total for this specific run reached $89.8 million. When combined with domestic figures, the re-release has generated $126 million in additional global revenue, providing the final push needed to eclipse the $2.923 billion lifetime total previously established by Avatar. The competition for the top spot has been a back-and-forth affair, with Avatar previously reclaiming the lead following its own successful re-release in 2022. While Avengers: Endgame has faced challenges in reaching the $900 million mark at the domestic box office, its global reach has proven sufficient to secure the top position on the all-time list. Industry analysts note that these figures are based on current estimates and various reporting sources, as the landscape of global box office tracking continues to evolve with periodic re-releases and market adjustments.
