This isn't the first occasion that Robert Pattinson and Timothee Chalamet have shared the screen. The two stars previously collaborated in Netflix’s 2019
historical film The King and are set to come together once more in Denis Villeneuve’s eagerly awaited Dune: Part Three. However, prior to fans spotting them together on Arrakis, the pair had already been “co-stars” in another project, but here’s the twist: nearly no one noticed. As Marty Supreme gains traction on the awards circuit, director Josh Safdie disclosed that Pattinson makes a hidden, fleeting appearance in the film. This revelation occurred during a discussion Safdie had at London’s BFI Southbank on Tuesday while promoting the movie. “No one is aware of this, but that voice - the commentator, the umpire - is Pattinson,” Safdie shared with the audience, dropping what quickly became a fan-favorite piece of trivia. “It’s like a little Easter egg. Nobody knows about that,” he continued, as reported by Variety. Explaining how the cameo came to be, Safdie joked, “He came and watched some footage, and I thought, ‘I don’t know any British people. So he’s the umpire.’” Pattinson’s role is entirely vocal and occurs early in the film. He is heard as the announcer during the British Open semifinals, where Chalamet’s main character - aspiring ping-pong talent Marty Mauser - competes against the reigning Hungarian champion Bela Kletzki, portrayed by Géza Röhrig. Marty Supreme, directed by Safdie, features a variety of quirky casting decisions and unexpected appearances. The cast includes brief cameos from fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, illusionist Penn Jillette, and New Yorker writer Naomi Fry. In a more significant role, entrepreneur and Shark Tank personality Kevin “Mr. Wonderful” O’Leary portrays businessman and Marty’s enthusiastic supporter, Milton Rockwell. Chalamet recently acknowledged O’Leary publicly during his Golden Globes acceptance speech after winning Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. “If you had told me at 19 that I’d be thanking Mr. Wonderful from Shark Tank?” Chalamet joked, as the camera panned to O’Leary applauding. “All right, you’re laughing, so I got away with that. Thank you, Kevin - I would have been shocked, but I’m very grateful.”
