After reports emerged indicating that income tax authorities had conducted a search at actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra's Mumbai residence in connection with
a Rs 60 crore fraud investigation, the actress refuted the allegations of a raid. A strongly phrased statement issued by her attorney disclosed that officials were performing standard verifications. In addition to the current fraud investigation, the actress's Bengaluru restaurant, Bastian, is also facing examination as the police filed an FIR against it for allegedly operating past the designated closing hours.
No income tax raids at Shilpa Shetty's residence, claims lawyer
Actress Shilpa Shetty addressed the speculation regarding any supposed income tax raids. The declaration from her lawyer, Prashant Patil, mentioned, "On behalf of my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra, I can affirm that there is no income tax 'raid' of any kind against my client. There is a standard verification being conducted by the income tax officials related to follow-up with my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra. Anyone who has falsely asserted in the public domain that these events are connected to the alleged Economic Offence Wing case will face legal repercussions in the appropriate court."
The statement continued, "To reiterate, my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra emphasizes that there is no income tax 'RAID' at her residence." Earlier this year, Shilpa Shetty and her spouse, Raj Kundra, were charged by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for allegedly defrauding a Mumbai businessman of Rs 60.4 crore in a loan-cum-investment arrangement. The businessman, Deepak Kothari, accused the couple of colluding to deceive him of over 60 crores. He claimed that the funds were provided for business expansion between 2015 and 2023 but were instead utilized for personal expenditures.

Shilpa expressed that she was "deeply saddened" by the accusations and that the ongoing speculation was a "groundless effort" to keep her linked to the allegations.
