Updating your Aadhaar details has just become a lot more convenient. In a move aimed at saving your trips to Aadhaar enrolment centres, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature that lets users add or update their email ID directly through the Aadhaar App. According to the Ministry of Electronics and IT, the service became available from July 1, 2026 and will remain free for six months. Aadhaar App installed on your Android or iPhone device.How To Update Your Email ID:-Open the Aadhaar App on you smartphone and log in using your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.-Head to the Update Email Address option under the services section.-Enter the email ID you want to link with your Aadhaar.-Verify ownership by entering the OTP sent to your new email address.-Complete the mandatory Face Authentication using your smartphone's front camera.-At last, review your details, submit the request and save the Update Request Number (URN) to track the status.As per UIDAI, updates generally reflect within two to three hours, although processing may take slightly longer in some cases.Why You Should Link Your Email With Aadhaar Once linked, you'll receive email notifications whenever your Aadhaar is used for OTP-based or biometric authentication, making it easier to keep track of activity related to your identity.The Ministry of Electronics and IT said the new service has already seen strong adoption. Within just two days of its rollout, over 2.5 lakh users had updated their email IDs through the Aadhaar App. The platform is available on both Android and iOS and also supports services such as mobile number updates and address changes.According to UIDAI, more than 40 million users have already updated their mobile numbers through the Aadhaar App, while nearly one million people have used it to update their addresses.Calling it a step towards improving ease of living, UIDAI has encouraged residents to take advantage of the free email update facility while it remains available through the Aadhaar App.
