Bhagyaraj, a veteran filmmaker, actor and screenwriter from the Tamil film industry, passed away in Chennai on June 27, 2026, after suffering a heart attack. He was 73 and is survived by his wife and former actress Poornima Bhagyaraj and children Shanthanu and Saranya. K Bhagyaraj’s mortal remains were kept at his residence in Chennai, where several celebrities visited to pay their last respects to the late Tamil actor. Superstar Rajinikanth also visited K Bhagyaraj’s house to see his friend for one last time. The actor got emotional and hugged Bhagyaraj’s son, Shantanu Bhagyaraj.

Rajinikanth Reaches K Bhagyaraj’s Residence

The Thalaiva of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth, visited K Bhagyaraj’s residence to pay his last respects to the late actor. He hugged his son, Shantanu Bhagyaraj, who was crying inconsolably after losing his dad. The Coolie actor also got emotional and consoled actor Shantanu. The video is going viral on social media. Apart from Rajinikanth, actors like Nassar, Dileep, Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay, Radhikaa Sarathkumar and others visited K Bhagyaraj’s residence to pay their last respects. Many celebrities like Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh Daggubati, Kamal Haasan, former CM of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin, Raghava Lawrence, Selvaraghavan, Simran and others mourned the demise of K Bhagyagraj on their social media handles.

After his demise, the Tamil Nadu government announced that K Bhagyagraj would be accorded state honours during his final journey. In an official statement on X, the CMO expressed grief and mentioned that Bhagyaraj was a talented actor, director, screenwriter, dialogue writer and composer. For the unversed, Bhagyaraj had met Vijay along with the members of the South Indian Film Writers’ Association in May 2026.

K Bhagyaraj had also attended the wedding ceremony of Khushboo Sundar’s daughter Avantika on June 25, 2026.
