Robert Downey Jr Promises Avengers Doomsday Will Not Be 'Let Down' - Here's Why

Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, the superhero film reintroduces actor Robert Downey Jr as the menacing villain Doctor Victor Von Doom. For the longest time, RDJ played Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This time, the stakes are high as he takes up a challenging role. Months ahead of the superhero film release, the actor has assured Marvel fans that Avengers: Doomsday will not let them down. The actor strongly believes that the upcoming film will more than suffice for the ardent fans.

What Robert Downey Jr said about Avengers: Doomsday?

In an interview with CBR, Robert revealed that there's been some experimentation with Avengers: Doomsday, where they had moments of shifting things here and there. However, the team eventually land in place which RDJ feels will more than suffice. And it's not even related to how the actor executed his character. It is more about the way it has been structured along with other characters.

"There's something going on in Doomsday and forward that is literally the only antidote to, ‘How do you not have these films be let down after an Infinity War and an Endgame?’ And boy, have we labored long and hard to bring that down," he said.

Robert on importance of villain in Avengers Doomsday

In the same conversation, Robert was asked about the importance of a villain which he took with Avengers: Doomsday and his character. To this, the actor said he tried to stay as removed from a subjective experience of things as he could. RDJ tried to think like the Russo brother and thought to feel like he was in the writing room. "I try to feel all that stuff. But eventually, there are so many big shoes to step into that I just have to go, ‘What hasn't been done as well as it can be done yet?’ We're always looking for that opportunity," the actor admitted. For the unversed, Robert Downey Jr made his final appearance as Iron Man in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame. As for the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for a big screen release on December 18, 2026.
