Selena
Gomez and Timothee Chalamet are heading to animation together for the first time with Not Alone, an upcoming sci-fi adventure from Illumination. The film, which was announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, has already generated excitement among fans due to its star-studded cast and uniquely cute premise. Chalamet and Gomez will lead the voice cast as two unlikely companions who find themselves caught up in an intergalactic adventure involving adorable aliens, groundbreaking technology, and unexpected romance. Produced by the studio behind blockbuster franchises like Despicable Me and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the film is scheduled to hit theatres in April 2027.
All about Timothee-Selena's Not Alone
Timothee Chalamet and
Selena Gomez are officially joining forces for Illumination’s upcoming animated feature
Not Alone. The film marks Chalamet’s first major voice acting role, while Gomez returns to animation after previously lending her voice to successful animated projects such as
Hotel Transylvania.
Chalamet will voice Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet and solitary life. Gomez plays Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist who is working on the world’s first plant-powered rocket. The pair come together to prepare for the inaugural launch of the revolutionary spacecraft, leading to an unexpected connection between them.
According to the official synopsis, romance does not come naturally to either Joe or Fran. However, their lives take a dramatic turn when three tiny aliens named Dunk, Welly, and Shirm seek refuge in Joe’s home. The lovable extraterrestrials are fleeing from Officer Zandro, an overzealous but incompetent law enforcer. The aliens soon realise that Fran’s rocket may be their only chance to return home safely, setting the stage for an adventure that combines science fiction, comedy and emotional story. Interestingly, this is not Selena and Timothee's first film together. They were last seen in controversial director Woddy Allen's film A Rainy Day in New York, that also starred Elle Fanning and Jude Law.
Cast of Not Alone
The supporting voice cast also features several notable names. Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou will voice the alien trio, while
Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein plays Officer Zandro. Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris have also joined the project in key supporting roles.
Not Alone will be co-directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val, all of whom have previously worked on successful Illumination productions. The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, with Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis, and David Distenfeld serving as executive producers.
