One
of the biggest talking points from Welcome To The Jungle has been the hilarious exchange between Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon, which instantly went viral after the film's release. The scene, loaded with meta humour, left audiences cheering as Raveena's character appeared to reference their real-life history while confronting Akshay's character. Considering the duo reunited on screen after more than two decades, fans were quick to wonder whether the moment had been intentionally written to play on their past. Now, director Ahmed Khan has finally revealed how the memorable sequence came to life in an exclusive conversation with Zoom.
Ahmed Khan on Raveena-Akshay's Welcome To The Jungle scene
While chatting with us,
Ahmed Khan said that casting Raveena Tandon for the role felt natural because of their long-standing friendship. The filmmaker revealed, "When I was writing the film, that role of the village woman who stands up for her rights, Raveena was in my mind."Ahmed recalled that while developing one particular sequence, the team suddenly realised the scene could unintentionally mirror Akshay and Raveena's real-life history. He confessed, "Toh jab Raveena mind mein aayi, then we realised, 'Arre, Raveena aur Akshay... okay, unka lena dena kuch hai nahi.' But there was one scene where she catches him, the army guy, and says, 'Where the Hell were you? 20 saal tak hamare gaon mein tum aaye nahi.'"
The director clarified that the dialogue was never conceived as a deliberate reference to the actors' past relationship. Instead, it emerged organically from the story. He said, "Meta to it was that it related to actual real life. It wasn't something we had planned. The idea was simply that no army personnel had come to that village for years, and when one finally arrives, she catches him and asks, 'Kahan the?'"However, once everyone noticed the amusing parallel, Ahmed admitted they decided to lean into it for the audience's enjoyment. The filmmaker shared that the cast and crew had a wonderful time shooting the sequence because they knew audiences would immediately understand the hidden reference. "We had fun while shooting it too. We were all clapping and laughing because Raveena was saying this to Akshay. So, we knew that it was going to land well, and it really landed, " added Ahmed.Ahmed also admitted that he could confidently include such a scene because of his close friendship with both actors. He concluded by saying, "If it had been any other director, they would've probably said, 'Arre yaar, yeh nahi bulwate.' Even if they wanted to do it, they might have said, 'Mere mein guts nahi hai.' But I said, 'Nahi yaar, we need to do it.'"Watch the full interview:
