Soni
Razdan has spoken on behalf of her daughter, Alia Bhatt, regarding the recent Cannes Film Festival 2026 controversy, which claimed that international paparazzi snubbed her on the red carpet. Calling it a "noise" on social media, the veteran actress strongly gave back to all the hate that came Alia's way post her appearance at the film fiesta. Alia, who was at the event as a brand ambassador of a cosmetic brand, arrived at the red carpet across two days, multiple times. However, on one occasion, netizens claimed she was completely ignored by the shutterbugs. While her videos went viral, it even became one of the talking points of Cannes 2026, with many defending the Alpha star.
Social media is noise
During a conversation with
Zoom,
Soni Razdan said the discussions on social media do not necessarily represent reality, because the actual picture is based on everyday experiences and what happens beyond online conversations. According to her, everyone who attended Cannes had a genuine reason and purpose behind being there.
"I think just because there is some noise on some social media platform, that doesn't at all reflect the actual reality on the ground. Because that is the reality that we face every single day, and we come across. Having said that, I think that everybody who went to Cannes, every single person, was there for a very good reason," she explained.
Being at Cannes was a recognition
Soni opined that every individual invited had earned that opportunity through their achievements on a global platform. Their presence was not accidental, because receiving an invitation itself reflects a level of recognition. "So if they're there in the first place, that means they're already being recognised. Secondly, I think we should not waste time giving any importance to this kind of negativity or we should not waste our energy on that. I don't think it deserves our attention. And I would not like to waste my breath figuring out why it exists or what it does, or who has created that. I'm not actually interested in the whole thing. I think as people in the business, you do your work, and you go. It ends for us there, actually," she added.

This Cannes 2026 conversation came at a time when Alia Bhatt was already gearing up for her next big release,
Alpha. The movie marks the first female-led title in the YRF Spy Universe. Also starring Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, it is set to release on July 10.
