Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane has finally dropped the first poster and release date of the much-awaited Sourav Ganguly biopic Dada on social media. Starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, the first poster showcases one of the most iconic moments from the legendary cricketing icons career. Along with the look, the filmmaker also dropped the release date for the film, after years of fan-speculation. A while back, Vikramaditya Motwane took to Instagram to share the first look poster and release date of Dada, on Sourav Ganguly's birthday, July 8. He simply captioned the poster "Happy Birthday Dada!" while tagging Sourav Ganguly and Rajkummar Rao. The poster highlights Ganguly's iconic removal of jersey and waving it from the balcony of the iconic Lord's
Cricket Ground in London to celebrate India's historic two-wicket victory over England in the NatWest Series final on July 13, 2002. The celebration, in fact, was a direct response to English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff's celebration in Mumbai earlier that year.
In the poster, Rajkummar Rao can be seen posing in a similar manner - shirtless. The poster, while revealing the release date to be May 14, 2027, also had written, "He Didn't Just Play The Game, He Changed It." Rajkummar Rao too took to his Instagram to share the poster, alongside the caption, "Happy Birthday our dearest Dada. @souravganguly"However, fans were not all that convinced with the poster. One person wrote, "Big fan of your work, but this is a really average poster." A second commented, "Whatever hope I had for this film has been killed by this poster." A third person commented, "Kis angle se Sourav Ganguli," while a fourth shared, "We expect far better from you VM. Anyways I was never convinced of RR as SG." One person even jokingly asked, “Poster made in canva?” while someone else said he thought it was a meme page – hinting at a rejection of the poster. Commenting on Rajkummar Rao's post, one person wrote, "Ohmygod. Was this made by a child who’s learnt Photoshop last night?" while a second shared, "Badly edited poster of DADA . Literally a mockery."Dada The Sourav Ganguly Story is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Luv Ranjan under Luv Films. Principal photography began in April 2026, with the first schedule shot at the iconic Eden Gardens, followed by filming across Kolkata, Mumbai and London. The film will also see Tanya Maniktala as Dona Ganguly, and Saswata Chatterjee as Sourav's father Chandi Ganguly.
