Directed by H Vinoth, the movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 23. It was initially scheduled to hit the silver screen on January 9, but was delayed due to certification issues. Days before Jana Nayagan's theatrical release, it was reportedly said that TN CM Vijay wasn't the first choice for the movie, as director Vinoth had earlier approached another actor for it. However, that isn't the truth.

In an interview with Cinema Vikatan, director Vinoth stated that Jana Nayagan isn't just a commercial flick. According to him, it is an important politicial film, which isn't just made to praise on TV or glorify Thalapathy Vijay. The filmmaker believes that even if people already know about this politics, watching Jana Nayagan will spark a lot of discussion.

It was also reported that Vinoth had approached another actor for Jana Nayagan before TN CM Vijay. The truth is that the filmmaker didn't speak about the same, and never approached anyone else for this project.

In another interview with Galatta Plus, H Vinoth was asked why Thalapathy Vijay wanted him to remake Bhagavanth Kesari. "See, basically Vijay sir is committed to women empowerment. Ever since his sister died, he has always feels inclined with the ideas that women and children should be strong.. I saw the same conviction in Ajith sir when we worked on the Pink remake. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to work on Vijay sir’s last film," he revealed.
