Director
Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious mythological epic Ramayana has found itself embroiled in yet another online controversy after a content creator claimed that the film's makers deliberately released a low-quality glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama to create hype and discussions. The claim has gone viral, reigniting a conversation about the film's visual effects just months before it hits theatres. But there is no official confirmation from the makers, and the claim remains unverified. Ramayana also stars Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, and others.
What does the viral claim say?
As per reports, earlier this week, the
Ramayana team held a special event where a select few digital creators got to visit the sets of the film and interact with director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, and actors Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and others. Among those attending was content creator Dhruv Parikshit, who later posted about his experience on social media.
On the question of visual effects in the film, Dhruv began by complimenting what he has seen. According to him, the film's world-building is on par with the big international productions. However, he also alleged that a member of the VFX team told him that the Ranbir Kapoor intro teaser released earlier this year was deliberately 'nerfed' despite better quality shots being available. The now deleted comment alleged that it was the makers' conscious decision as the criticism and online discussion would generate 'free' publicity for the film.Dhruv told a VFX artist that he was told by the technician that the creators deliberately uploaded the Rama glimpse. "They had better versions of those scenes, yet they intentionally chose to release the incomplete one. Why? Because discussions and criticism across the internet translate into free marketing," he posted.
About the video
For the unversed, the video in question is the one that was floating around on fan pages months ago, featuring
Ranbir Kapoor in his Lord Ram avatar. Many viewers lauded the scale and ambition of the teaser, but others were critical of the CGI and creature designs, demanding improvements before release. Later, the production team assured audiences that the visual effects would be further refined before the film’s theatrical debut.
Dhruv changed his comment later
Dhruv deleted the original comment and posted a new clarification soon after the statement went viral online. In the updated answer, he said that visual effects work was going well and that some unfinished footage seen during the visit was probably already updated months ago. He also complimented the character designs of the film and said the overall visual world was a fantasy-inspired take on Indian culture.Dhruv's replaced comment read, "VFX pe kaam chal raha hai, and kaafi accha kaam ho bhi Gaya hai. Humko kuch incomplete footages bhi dikhaye the and i believe vo already complete ho chuke hain mahino pahle hi (Work on the VFX is ongoing and it is good. We were shown some incomplete footage but I believe it is all complete). And bhai, character designs!! They're gorgeous! They're absolutely wonderful. It is more like a very beautiful fantasy world, but in an Indian setting. It is going to be a great theatrical experience (sic)."
But the deletion did not stop screenshots of his original comment from circulating widely on social media, further fueling speculation and debate.Neither director Nitesh Tiwari nor producer Namit Malhotra has responded to the claim that the teaser was released with unfinished visual effects.
Ramayana is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release and the second part is anticipated a year later.
