the ongoing protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Naseeruddin Shah has finally broken his silence on the violence during the Chalo Sansad march on July 20. The actor, who has been vocal about his opinions on socio-political affairs, expressed his anger and frustration after watching visuals of attacks at the protest location. Sharing a video on Instagram, Shah got emotional reacting to the violence against students protesting after the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak controversy. Addressing the matter, Naseeruddin slammed people for raising their hands on students.

In the video, Naseeruddin said, “Iss waqt mera dil bhi bhara hua hai aur main gusse se khaul bhi raha hoon yeh dekhkar ke humare bachchon ke saath kis tarah zulm ka bartav kiya ja raha hai unn gundon ke haathon joh mujhe America ke agents ki yaad dilate hai, muh pe naqab lagaye hue, haath mein danda liye hue. Kabhi apne bachchon ke baare mein bhi socha karo aur yeh bhi socho tumhara anjaam tumhe bhi ek din milega zaroor.”(Translation: I am emotional and at the same time, my blood boils seeing how the youth are being tortured by those goons who remind me of the mask-wearing agents in America. Do give a thought about your children too and be aware of the consequences you would have to face eventually.)

Naseeruddin Shah backs protesting students

He further added, “Inn sab bachchon se main kehna chahta hoon ki himmat na hare. Bohot se logon ki hamdardi aapke saath hai. Bohot se log aapke saath hai. Aap ladhte rahe, mujhe humare mulq ki yuva peedhi se humesha ummeed rahi hai aur ab voh ummeed aur ujagar ho gayi hai. Aap log apni ladayi ladhte rahein, hum aapke saath hai.”(Translation: I would like to tell the students that do not lose hope. You have the empathy of millions. There are many standing by you. Keep fighting; I have faith in our country’s youth, and the faith has just strengthened. In this fight, we are with you.)

Did Naseeruddin Shah join protest in Delhi?

Recently, a video went viral on social media claiming that Naseeruddin and his sons, Vivaan and Imaad, were at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to join the protest on Monday. However, the video was from a movie screening at Mumbai’s Regal theatre.

Not just in Delhi, supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) are also protesting in Mumbai. The Mumbai police have imposed a ban on gatherings of five or more people, processions, loudspeakers, and fireworks from July 23 to August 6, for fear of a breach of the peace.
