On June 24, the film's name and other details were shared at a grand launch event in Chennai. The poster of Dharman shows the veteran actor in a 'deadly' doctor's avatar. Actresses Simran and Raashii Khanna were named as the leading ladies, while Oh My Kadavule and Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu was unveiled as the latest filmmaker to take on the project. At the launch, Rajinikanth shared why Dharman is now on its fourth director.

Why Dharman go through numerous directors before launch?

The film's star, Rajinikanth, spoke about the numerous director changes on Dharman. Ashwath Marimuthu is the fourth director to helm the thriller. In Chennai, the veteran actor shared the journey of Thalaivar 173, which is now titled Dharman. Rajinikanth recalled that KS Ravikumar had been originally fixed as the director, but it didn't work out. Later, Sundar C stepped in. However, he had other commitments and the film got delayed so Sundar C had to step down.

Afterwards, Cibi Chakravarthy came on board. Rajinikanth said, "The story was good but it was a very sensitive subject. It's about a nuclear scientist and nuclear weapons." The film was planned for Afghanistan and Russia but since it was a very sensitive subject and time-consuming, it was kept on the back burner. Eventually, Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu came into the project.

What is Dharman about?

The poster shows the Tamil superstar in doctors' blue scrubs, wearing gloves and holding a bloody scalpel while standing atop a dead body in an operating room. Even his sneakers are covered in red blood. The actor has his trademark sunglasses and his digital watch states the time as 12:12.

Dharman's shooting is officially launched today after the announcement of the director and two stars Simran and Raashii Khanna. Principal photography began in Chennai with the film's inaugural shoot ceremony on June 24. Dharman's music will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander and the action sequences will be choreographed by the National Award-winning duo Anbariv. While Dharman is produced by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran under the banner of RaajKamal Films International, the Tamil film is also co-produced by Disney. It is the first time that Rajinikanth is working with RKFI (RaajKamal Films International), Kamal Haasan's banner.
