Dosanjh's Satluj had a quiet release on July 3 on ZEE5. No prior announcements were made regarding its OTT release. Directed by Honey Trehan, the film's release had been delayed for three years due to certification issues by the Central Board of Film Certification. Unfortunately, the movie, based on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra's life, was removed within 48 hours of its premiere. Now, in an exclusive interview with Zoom, Niren Bhatt, who is the co-writer of Satluj, has shared his thoughts about the movie's removal from OTT.
Niren Bhatt on Satluj's removal from OTT
Speaking exclusively to us,
Niren Bhatt stated, "See, my take on it is that I was shocked that why it was taken down, and today, finally, there is some relief, reason that is the news that there is a special committee which will be reviewing the film. I personally believe that whatever is shown in the film is because we are very thorough with whatever facts we are showing, we did a tremendous amount of research, we met hundreds of people, and whatever is shown in the movie is the judicial history of the country. It is proven by the Supreme Court."
The writer of Satluj added that Jaswant Singh Khalra, a human rights activist, was killed. Although he had two children and a family, he still took the risk and fought for these cases, added Bhatt."He fought for poor families where
maa-baap ko death certificates nahi mil rahe hai, wife ka husband missing hai (aur) uske account mein paise nahi mil rahe, bete ko baap ka inheritance nahi mil raha hai, iss sab ke liye chahiye rehta hai proof jo tha ye aadmi, who is no more. Uss ke liye ye aadmi lad raha tha aur uski hatya hui. Jinhone hatya ki thi unko saza hui," he shared.
The writer further mentioned that everything is out there in media, and there is a verdict by the court. He added that people were named and they were punished by the the Supreme Court. "Only those things are shown which are proven in the court."
Niren Bhatt: Satluj is story of humanity and peace
Continuing this conversation, Niren Bhatt revealed why he believes
Satluj is a story of humanity and peace. "The circle of violence, which Arjun Rampal's character talks about in this film, ends in 1995 and peace is restored, bureaucracy takes over in the state, and the state starts flourishing again. We have seen the glorified Punjab, mustard fields, romantic image - those things came because of this. It is a story of humanity and peace. "I think the committee will see that and film should be available for streaming again," he shared.Meanwhile, the star cast of
Satluj also features Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, Suvinder Vicky and Kanwaljit Singh.
