72nd National Film Awards’ winners' names were announced on July 18, 2026, in New Delhi. Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan won Best Actor awards for their outstanding performances in Bramayugam and Chandu Champion, respectively. Yami Gautam received the Best Actress honour for her acting in the film, Article 370. Many great pieces of work were noticed by the juries of the the National Film Awards. Tamil Superstar Suriya, who is also a proud winner of the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Soorarai Pottru, has congratulated the winners and penned a special note for them.

Suriya took to his X handle and penned a brief yet beautiful note for all the winners of the 72nd National Film Award. In a note, the Jai Bhim actor wrote, “Many congratulations to all the winners of the #72ndNationalFilmAwards. Heartfelt wishes to my seniors and friends. Your pursuit of excellence enriches the world of Indian cinema.” For the unversed, Suriya is one of the most loved actors in Indian cinema. Meet Winners Of 72nd National Film Awards
Coming back to the
72nd National Film Awards, Mammootty has joined Amitabh Bachchan in bagging the fourth Best Actor’s National Film Award. He had previously won the honour for Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Mathilukal (1989), Ponthan Mada and Vidheyan (1994) and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar (1999). On the other hand, Kartik Aaryan and Yami Gautam have won their first-ever best actor and actress honours at the National Film Awards. Kalki 2898 AD won the best award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in key roles. Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar received the honour for Best Debut Film of a director. Rajkumar Periyasamy won the Best Director honour for the Tamil film, Amaran. Dhanush got a special mention for his performance in the epic actioner, Captain Miller.
