Galaxy
Apartments in Mumbai’s Bandra area was more than just another residential property. Since 1974, the first floor of the building has been home to veteran screenwriter Salim Khan and his family, including five children. While most of them have moved out, Salman Khan, the elder son of the Sholay writer and Salma Khan, lives there with them. Now, the latest report suggested that the Khans will soon have a new address. Instead of living in an apartment, a news portal’s report revealed that Salman is constructing a new six-storey sea-facing independent bungalow for the family.
Salman Khan gets MCZMA's clearance to construct new bungalow
According to Hindustan Times’ report, the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) gave a clearance to the Khans on June 16 to build a residential tower in Bandra’s Chimbai area, which is a few meters away from Galaxy Apartments. The portal revealed that the property will be constructed on a plot, which was purchased in 2011 by
Salman’s mother, Salma a.k.a Sushila Charak.
Why is Salman Khan moving out of Galaxy Apartments?
It was indicated that the decision to construct an independent bungalow was made after repeated threats to Salman by Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang. The famous balcony at
Galaxy Apartments, which was a window into the Khan’s world, was sealed after four bullets were fired in 2024. The new bungalow offers better security, as per the report.
Where will Salman Khan and family reside?
The property owned by Salma belonged to Mary Clotilda Baptista. It was resold a couple of times and finally purchased by the Khans in 2011. The family demolished the two-storey bungalow due to its dilapidated state. As per the MCZM’s minutes, Salman and the family have planned a ground plus stilt plus six-storey residential building, which will be constructed under regulation 33(16) of Development Control and Promotional Regulations 2034. An FSI of 1.459 will be consumed, and IOD (permission) was issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (
BMC) on October 28, 2025. Sach Developers have been appointed for constructing the 1014.11 sq. metres property. In addition to this, there will be a 6.01metre-wide approach road from the municipal road. The Khans have assured that no trees will be affected, and indigenous trees will be planted in the periphery of the plot and in the recreation ground area of the project site.
