Fernandez has been in legal trouble for a while now! Not so long ago, the Bollywood actress had reportedly filed a petition challenging the Delhi court's decision to frame charges against her in the Rs 200 crore money laundering case. The case is allegedly linked to Sukesh Chandrasekhar. As per media reports, on May 30, the Delhi Court framed charges against Jacqueline, alleged conman Sukesh, and 15 others. Now, the Supreme Court is reported to have granted permission to the actress to withdraw her plea against the Delhi court. Read on to know more.
Jacqueline Fernandez withdraws plea in SC?
According to
PTI, a bench of Justices Justices B V Nagarathna and Joymalya Bagchi allowed
Jacqueline's petition to be withdrawn. The news agency suggests that they mentioned that the counsel for Jacqueline sought permission to withdraw the special petition leave along with the liberty to avail appropriate remedy in accordance with the law.
Eventually, the Supreme Court apparently granted the permission to withdraw the petition. As per
LiveLaw, the Rs 200 crore money laundering case dates back to 2021. A woman named Aditi Singh had allegedly filed a complaint claiming that she had been cheated of nearly Rs 200 crore in a syndicate led by Sukesh.Jacqueline was rumoured to have received gifts and benefits worth Rs 5.71 crore. The list of the expensive gifts allegedly included watches, luxury bags, foreign fund transfers, vehicles for family members, and more. The Enforcement Directorate had apparently lodged a money laundering case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The case was reported to be lodged on the basis of the predicate offence registered by the Delhi police.The report further suggests that Sukesh, as per ED, used the proceeds of crime to purchase luxurious and expensive gifts for Bollywood celebrities.
