Raj
Nidimoru never goes wrong when it comes to creating female characters for the big screen. His recent gift to the Telugu film industry, Maa Inti Bangaaram, celebrates the strength and courage of an ordinary woman. The action drama, headlined by Samantha Ruth Prabhu, has crossed the Rs 80 crore mark at the worldwide box office. Raj recently hinted at the sequel to Maa Inti Bangaaram. In an exclusive interview with Zoom amid the film’s success, the writer-producer confirmed that he is not keen on ‘remaking’ the movie in Hindi.
Raj Nidimoru is not keen on remaking Stree, Maa Inti Bangaaram
He told Zoom that the story of
Maa Inti Bangaaram was written keeping a specific demographic in mind, and it was meant to cater strictly to the Telugu audience. He doesn’t see the story of Swarna fitting into the Hindi milieu. Raj also revealed that after the success of
Stree, he was offered to remake it in other languages, but he wasn’t interested.
“The film was doing really well, and I wanted it to stay the way it was done and not be remade. I wasn’t keen on that idea,” Raj told us exclusively.
Is Stree based on real story?
Stree (2018) was written by Raj and his professional partner, DK Krishna. The film was loosely based on Karnataka’s popular folk legend,
Naale Baa, which means Come Tomorrow. It used to be written on the doors and walls of the towns and villages for many years to keep homes free from a spirit.
What is Stree's story?
The film follows the story of Vicky, a young man living in the quiet town of Chanderi. During the annual puja, residents believed that a woman’s spirit attacks men and undresses them before kidnapping. Every home had ‘
O Stree Kal Aana’ written in red. Around the same period, Vicky meets a mysterious lady and falls in love with her without knowing her identity. After his friend Jana is kidnapped by ‘Stree’, Vicky realises that he is the saviour in disguise. He is advised to chop off Stree’s braid to free the town from her curse. Despite doing so, the story of the mysterious woman continues in the second part.
Stree 3 is expected to reveal her identity, which is only known to Vicky.
Stree box office collection
Stree was a sleeper hit and earned Rs 180.76 crore worldwide. The sequel,
Stree 2, became the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time in India. It collected Rs 874.58 crore globally.
