Ranaut's upcoming film Queen 2 has run into legal trouble just days after wrapping its shoot. Phantom Studios filed a Rs 250 crore lawsuit against JioStar in the Bombay High Court, alleging that the upcoming film is an unauthorised sequel that infringes on the intellectual property rights of the original Queen. The production house claims it owns 50 per cent of the rights to Queen, including the right to produce sequels. JioStar has now stepped in to clear the air, insisting the new film shares no creative link with the 2014 original.
JioStar Defends Kangana Ranaut's Queen 2
JioStar has clarified that Queen 2 is a fresh, standalone project starring Kangana Ranaut. It said the word is simply part of the English language, and no single party can claim exclusive rights over a common noun.
JioStar further confirmed it is aware of the pending litigation and intends to contest it through the proper legal process. The company said it remains fully confident about the strength of its case.
