While the beloved character is being played by Jitendra Kumar in the film, Vikrant Massey, who originally portrayed Bablu in the first season, recently reflected on his unforgettable journey with the franchise. Looking back, the actor admitted he still wishes Bablu had not been killed off, calling it one of the biggest "what ifs" of his career. Vikrant also recalled the show's unexpected, overnight success and the unprecedented response from fans, which made him realize that Mirzapur had become a cultural phenomenon.

During a conversation with FLO Bangalore Official, Vikrant Massey revisited Mirzapur's early days. The actor confessed that he still wishes the makers had kept his character alive. "I wish they hadn't killed me." Vikrant explained that the cast and crew had embarked on the project with little expectation of the impact it would eventually have. "When Mirzapur came my way, it was actually just a bunch of enthusiastic people coming together. It was simply a group of people who came together and said, 'Let's make this show,'" he recalled, saying no one imagined the series would go on to redefine India's streaming landscape.

Vikrant Massey recalls Mirzapur's overnight success

Vikrant also also opened up about the moment he realised Mirzapur had become a cultural phenomenon. The actor recalled shooting Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi in Lucknow when the series premiered and being taken aback by the overwhelming response within hours. "I remember very vividly that I was in Lucknow the day the show came out," he said, adding that by the end of the day, a crowd of nearly 200–300 people had gathered outside the set after learning that "Bablu Bhaiya" was filming there. Vikrant revealed that fans even followed his car on bikes for selfies and autographs. "And that is when we realised that we'd actually made something good, something people were really enjoying watching," he recalled.

About Bablu Pandit in Mirzapur: The Movie

Mirzapur: The Movie has sparked excitement by bringing back several beloved characters, including Bablu Pandit. However, unlike the series, the character will now be played by Jitendra Kumar instead of Vikrant Massey. Meanwhile, Jitendra made a special cameo in a cross-over for two episodes dealing with paperwork regarding Kaleen Bhaiya's supposed death.
