The case dates back to the production of Mannar Vagaiyara, a film in which Vimal starred and also served as a producer. According to reports, he had borrowed funds from a finance company for the project and later issued a cheque worth Rs 4.5 crore towards repayment. When the cheque was presented, it was allegedly returned due to insufficient funds, prompting the lender to initiate proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
