After
the shocking death of JJ (Rudy Pankow) in Season 4, the Pogues are out for revenge. Outer Banks will wrap its adventure story with a fifth season premiering on August 20 on Netflix. Co-created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, the makers had already revealed in 2024 that they were preparing to close the chapter for the Pogues with one last adventure. In the final season, it seems no one is safe, not even John B's (Chase Stokes) beloved van, The Twinkie. Find out why the Pogues are back in jail as shown in the new teaser.
Outer Banks to end with Season 5 in August 2026
Netflix dropped the teaser for the
final season on social media, which had the group regrouping after JJ's death in Morocco. The young man was killed by his father Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane). Now, the crew is stranded in a foreign country after having lost the Blue Crown. They must navigate their way back home after facing many familiar threats while also avenging JJ's murder by following Chandler to Portugal. Is this what gets them behind bars in the last season?
John B, Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) make a shaky alliance with Rafe (Drew Starkey) to secure their future and honour their late friend's memory. The teaser shows the Pogues facing off against Chandler and the series promising "One Last Ride." The promo video also plays out the iconic Pogue anthem, Left Hand Free by alt-J.
Why are the Pogues behind bars?
According to a report in
Deadline, another promotional video was played at the Netflix upfront presentation in May. It showed the Pogues appearing for a hearing in Croatia. The group is eventually extradited back to the US but they are separated. Cleo heads to the Bahamas and John B, Sarah, Kiara and Pope go back to OBX (the Outer Banks). At Kildare Island, the gang is back in trouble, especially Pope, who receives an arraignment notice. Part of the fifth season was shot in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
