After a steady, yet low first week, the pre-Partition love story picked up pace in the second weekend. Despite competition from new films, including Cocktail 2 and Welcome To The Jungle, Main Vaapas Aaunga is trending comparatively better, given the difference in the scale of the respective films. As the fourth week is about to begin, early predictions indicate that it could be declared a clean hit. Main Vaapas Aaunga released in theatres on June 12.

Main Vaapas Aaunga bounced back on Saturday after a slight dip in the box office collection during the week. On Friday, the film earned Rs 2.75 crore. It jumped to Rs 4.25 crore on Day 16. At the time of publishing, Sunday collection had already touched Rs 1.05 crore. As of the third Saturday, the total was Rs 42.85 crore.

What is Main Vaapas Aaunga's story
Main Vaapas Aaunga is about a 95-year-old Sikh man named Ishar. In his youth, he was called Keenu affectionately. Back in the pre-Partition time, he loved a Muslim woman named Afsana or Jiya. The Partition breaks his promise to never leave her, and Keenu has to move to Amritsar. Some time after the border separating India and Pakistan was established, Keenu returns to Sargodha to take Jiya to the other side with him.
Main Vaapas Aaunga is told through Ishar’s memory of Jiya and how he perceived the Partition. His grandson, Nirvair, becomes the thread that connects his past with his present.
