actor-filmmaker K Bhagyaraj died on June 27, 2026, after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 73. His mortal remains were kept at his residence in Chennai for last respects. The Tamil star is survived by his wife Poornima Bhagyaraj and children Shantanu and Saranya. Several celebrities and politicians, like Rajinikanth, Tamil Nadu CM C. Joseph Vijay, Dileep, Nassar, Radikaa Sarathkumar and others, visited K Bhagyaraj’s house to pay their last tributes to the late actor. Ahead of his funeral, Bhagyaraj’s family fulfilled his last wish. K Bhagyaraj’s eyes have been donated to the visually impaired after his death.

According to a Thanthi TV report, a team of doctors visited K Bhagyaraj’s residence and completed the corneal donation procedure. For the unversed, long before his death, the veteran actor had pledged to donate his eyes, hoping to give someone else the chance to see. His family fulfilled that promise by immediately informing an eye hospital after his demise. His corneas will now help restore vision for people living with corneal blindness. A few videos of doctors leaving his residence are going viral on social media.

The former Governor of Telangana, Tamilisai Soundararajan, has also confirmed the news and praised the late actor K Bhagyaraj. In the X post, Soundararajan wrote, “The thought that even after one's own demise, light must be given to those who have lost their sight... no matter how much it is praised, it is well-deserved.” (sic)

He had also directed a couple of Hindi films, Aakhri Raasta and Mr Bechara. K Bhagyaraj would be accorded state honours during his final journey. In an official statement on X, the CMO expressed grief. They also mentioned K Bhagyaraj as a talented actor, director, screenwriter, dialogue writer and composer. K Bhagyaraj had attended the wedding ceremony of actress Khushboo Sundar’s daughter Avantika on June 25, 2026. The actor’s death news turned out to be a big shock for his fans as he passed away just two weeks after the demise of his mentor, Bharathiraja. After learning about his demise, many actors like Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh Daggubati, Kamal Haasan and others mourned his death on social media. As per reports, K Bhagyaraj’s funeral will be held tomorrow (Sunday) at the Besant Nagar Crematorium, Chennai, at 1:30 pm.
