Zendaya
starrer Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring a role reversal for her and Tom Holland. Peter Parker, played by Tom, wiped out every memory of himself from the world in the last movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home. This sacrifice also led to MJ, played by Zendaya, forgetting about him and every moment they shared. Now, in the upcoming movie, they will reunite, but Zendaya will still be unaware of the past as she has moved on with her college life. The actress has spoken about how she will still root for him even if the situations are changed now.
Zendaya Roots For Peter Parker Always
Zendaya is approaching the characters with fresh perspectives this time. Speaking to Variety India, she revealed that Peter and MJ’s paths are very much connected this time as well, but in some unexpected ways. Peter in the film is currently battling with the warnings that were given by his alternate universe counterparts. To Zendaya,
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will revolve around those ideas and warnings about Peter. But, despite those, she is “rooting for him. Always”.
The Role Reversal
Zendaya recollected how their dynamic in the upcoming film is completely changed from what it was in the previous movies. She feels it was always Peter who was the “optimist” and MJ remained the “pessimist” one, but that has changed now.
As Peter is isolated, “he's kind of adopted that negativity,” and MJ has taken over the positivity without being aware of it. But Zendaya feels that there is still a connection as she reflected, “There's clearly something still there." According to her, this flip was still very interesting.
Zendaya’s Challenge in Spider-Man Brand New Day
Peter's absence is what has changed the entire scenario for Zendaya. It was somewhat of an acting challenge for her as she had to act like a stranger with
Tom Holland, who has been her long-time co-star. Though she described that activity as fun. “We kind of describe it as like a fun acting exercise,” she said. but Overall, it was something unique for her as they delved into the story and what their lives had been without Peter Parker. She noted that their bond is ineradicable as Peter left a mark on MJ and on who she has become.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the MCU film is the highly anticipated fourth addition to the
