As concerns mount over Wangchuk's prolonged hunger strike and the demands raised by students, the actress took to social media to share her thoughts on the situation. Calling for a constructive way forward, Zinta appealed for meaningful engagement between the government and Wangchuk, emphasising that the activist's well-being should remain a priority. She also voiced her solidarity with the students, describing their movement as an important fight for the future of India's education system.

On July 21, taking to her X account, Preity Zinta shared a heartfelt message, urging the government to engage in talks with Sonam Wangchuk while expressing concern over his deteriorating health amid his ongoing fast. She wrote, "I hope our govt starts a meaningful dialogue with Sonam Wangchuk and the student bodies so his health does not deteriorate any further!"Appealing directly to the activist, Preity added, "Please end your fast Sonam. Your health is as important as this fight. You and the students are fighting for the future of India and for our youth." Extending her support to the ongoing movement, Zinta concluded, "My heartfelt & unwavering support to every student & to Sonam in this fight to uplift & upgrade our educational system. More power to all of you."

About Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike

Sonam Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike on June 28, 2026, in solidarity with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a youth-led movement protesting recurring exam paper leaks, including the NEET controversy, and rising unemployment. He has said he will end his fast only if the Centre accepts responsibility for the leaks, MPs assure the issue will be raised during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, and restrictions on his speech and movement are lifted. After more than 20 days without food, Wangchuk reportedly lost over 9 kilograms and suffered severe dehydration and muscle breakdown. On July 18, Delhi Police, acting on court orders, shifted the 59-year-old activist from the Jantar Mantar protest site to Safdarjung Hospital for medical monitoring despite his objections. The move also halted the CJP's planned "Sansad Chalo" march, with authorities citing concerns over his health, while supporters argue it undermines the democratic right to peaceful protest.
