Pranit
More's viral 'Rs 370 biryani' video has brought him brickbats, infamy and legal trouble. Now, Gurugram Police have also registered an FIR against him and audience member Himanshu Jangra following intervention by the National Commission for Women (NCW). The case stems from remarks made during one of More's comedy shows that sparked widespread outrage online and drew criticism from women's rights groups and social media users. The NCW has alleged that the comments appeared to undermine the principle of consent.
FIR Registered Following NCW Intervention
The National Commission for Women took swift cognisance of the matter after clips from the comedy show circulated widely on social media. According to the Commission, the remarks made during the performance appeared to glorify coercive behaviour and were disrespectful towards women. Acting on its complaint, Gurugram Police registered an FIR against comedian Pranit More and tech professional
Himanshu Jangra. As per Live Mint, the Gurugram police said, "Giving the utmost priority to the safety and respect of women, the Gurugram Police has registered a case regarding the objectionable video that went viral on social media."
The NCW has also summoned both individuals to appear before the Commission on June 22, 2026, at 4 p.m. for a hearing regarding the matter. The Commission stated that the issue raises serious concerns about the portrayal and normalisation of behaviour that undermines women's dignity and the concept of consent.
Maharashtra Cyber Police Also Registers Case
The Gurugram FIR is not the only legal challenge facing those involved in the controversy. Earlier this month, Maharashtra Cyber Police registered an
FIR against Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, Dr. Sejal Pawar and other individuals found to be connected to the circulation of the content. The case was filed at the Nodal Cyber Police Station under Sections 75(1)(iv), 75(3), 294 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.According to police officials, the complaint pertains to the publication and dissemination of allegedly obscene and objectionable material through online platforms and social media channels. Investigators are examining the creation, sharing and promotion of the content as part of the ongoing probe.
The controversy erupted after a video from one of More's recent shows in Gurugram went viral online. During an audience interaction segment, Himanshu Jangra allegedly narrated an incident involving a date where he spent Rs 370 on chicken biryani. According to the viral clip, he claimed that when the woman later asked him to drop her home, he sought s*xual favours in return for the money he had spent. Netizens said More amplified the problematic comments by laughing during the exchange and subsequently sharing the clip online, helping it reach a wider audience.
