Raakh,
the latest show by Prosit Roy, has had a deeply emotional impact on the audience. Based on the Geeta and Sanjay Chopra case, which is famously called the 1978 Ranga-Billa case, the series has two antagonists: Babu, played by Akash Makhija and Rajjo, portrayed by Ramandeep Yadav. The final episode of the show reveals what happened to the children, Suman (Divya Sharma) and Sahil (Vivaan Sharma), after the criminals promised to give them a lift in their car and how the teenagers lost their lives. An important scene inside the car had multiple layers. In an exclusive interview, Akash, who plays Babu, spoke about making his female co-star feel safe while shooting the scene.
Akash Makhija says Raakh set had an intimacy coach
When asked about the car scene where Babu’s sexual desire towards Suman awakens in a tense situation,
Akash told
Times Now/Zoom, “We had an intimacy coach, a child therapist, and an action master on set. You have seen it as an entire scene, but we had at least 15 cuts while doing it. We made sure nobody felt uncomfortable. The intimacy coach helped us a lot and without his final word, the scene wouldn’t have gone ahead. We were aware that what we were doing was acting.”
Akash Makhija recalls getting emotional on Raakh set
Makhija further added, “Most of the people on set broke down watching Divya’s performance; she was brilliant. After seeing that kind of reaction, I wondered ab log mujhse kitna nafrat karenge. We performed multiple times, but we were fully aware that it was just acting. Agar mujhe kisiko maarna hai, main thodi na uska gala dabaunga. Action director hume batate hai ki kidhar rokna hai. Whenever you see us punching each other, it doesn’t happen for real. Yes, accidents happen, but we are extra careful under the guidance of an action director.”
Akash Makhija receives threats
In the same interview, Akash revealed that many messaged him on Instagram wanting to kill him. He said, “Whenever I open my Instagram DM, I see people want to kill me. Death threat se pata nahi kya kya aa raha hai. The audience has accepted Babu. I am aware he’s the most hated character in the nation. Some messages even read that when Jayprakash (Ali Fazal) was beating him, we were cheering. There is a funny thing that happened. My mother watched the show and got emotional, but when Ali was beating me. That’s maa ki mamta!”
Raakh also stars Ali Fazal, Sonali Bendre, Aamir Bashir, Rakesh Bedi,
Ramandeep Yadav, Divya Sharma, Vivaan Sharma, Anshul Chauhan, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. The show premiered on Amazon Prime Video on June 12.
