actor Saif Ali Khan's father, the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, popularly known as Tiger Pataudi, was recently honoured at a special ceremony held at Winchester College. The Kartavya actor, who is also an alumnus of the prestigious institution, attended the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the college’s historic cricket pavilion, Hunter Tent. The event was part of Wykeham Day, Winchester College’s annual summer celebration that brings together students, staff, families, and alumni to honour its long-standing traditions of sport, culture, and community spanning over 600 years. The occasion marked a heartfelt tribute to Tiger Pataudi’s legacy and his deep connection with the historic institution.

Saif fondly remembered his father’s early cricketing journey at Winchester and expressed gratitude to the college for honouring his memory through the special event.He said that, as a former student of Winchester College himself, it was a privilege to return and pay tribute to his father. He noted that the college played an important role in shaping his father’s early cricketing journey and that his father always spoke warmly about the friendships, values, and experiences he gained there. "Our family is immensely proud and grateful that Winchester College has chosen to honour him in this way. We hope this plaque will inspire future generations of pupils, just as Winchester inspired him," said Saif.
Sir Richard Stagg, Warden of Winchester College, said that Tiger Pataudi remains one of the most distinguished figures in cricket history and a great source of pride for the institution. He noted that Pataudi was a cricketing prodigy at the school and had broken a long-standing record for runs in a season set by Douglas Jardine in 1919. He added that Pataudi went on to become a leading cricketer and an important figure in Indian cricket. Stagg further said that honouring his legacy also highlights the strong and lasting ties between the United Kingdom and India, along with their shared love for the game.
