Prakash
Raj got relief in the ongoing voter ID case against him. He appeared in person before a Bengaluru court on Friday after a non-bailable warrant had earlier been issued against him for not responding to court summons. His legal team asked the court to withdraw the warrant, and the actor also sought bail during the same hearing. The court accepted the request, recalled the warrant, and granted him bail after he furnished a small cash surety. This brings the immediate legal trouble linked to the warrant to a close, though the larger case continues.
Prakash Raj Gets Bail
The 48th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court in Bengaluru heard arguments from Prakash Raj's lawyers on Friday. His counsel requested the court to recall the non-bailable warrant issued earlier. After hearing both sides, the court agreed to withdraw the warrant. Prakash Raj was granted bail after furnishing a cash surety of just Rs 4,000, closing the immediate proceedings tied to the warrant, as reported by India Today.
His lawyers argued that the court summons had never actually reached him. They said the actor came to know about the case only through media reports, not through any official notice sent by the court. The court accepted this explanation and allowed the plea to recall the warrant. With bail granted, Prakash Raj is no longer under threat of arrest linked to this warrant, though the case itself remains active.
All About The Case
The case dates back to 2019, when advocate Dileep Kumar filed a complaint at Halasuru Gate Police Station. He alleged that Prakash Raj held voter ID cards in multiple states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. As per Election Commission rules, a person can be registered as a voter at only one place across the country. Holding multiple voter IDs goes directly against this regulation. The complainant claimed no action was taken after his police complaint. He then approached the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and the Election Commission, but got no response from either, which pushed him to move court instead. The court had issued summons to Prakash Raj on two separate occasions, but he did not turn up either time. This repeated absence led the court to issue a non-bailable warrant against him, which has now been recalled following his court appearance and bail.
