Suriya-starrer
Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, has emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. The film recently crossed the Rs 300 crore mark at the global box office, much to the delight of its makers. However, the film found itself at the centre of a controversy after Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association president Tirupur Subramaniam made remarks about its delayed release. Claiming that financiers played the key role in ensuring the film's release, he also slammed RJ Balaji's contribution during the crisis. In response, Dream Warrior Productions, the banner behind Karuppu, has issued a statement expressing gratitude to the financiers while backing RJ Balaji.
Karuppu Makers Thank Financiers, Stand by RJ Balaji Following Tirupur Subramaniam's Criticism
In their statement, the makers expressed gratitude to every financier who played a role in the film's release, including Tirupur Subramaniam and the late RB Choudary. The production house also responded to Tirupur Subramaniam's remarks that director RJ Balaji did not stand by the film during its financial difficulties, broke down during delay, and later 'raised' his collar after its success. Defending the filmmaker's contribution, the statement said the film's success "would not have been possible without RJ Balaji", who "held the vibe of the film". "Karuppu's journey and huge success would not have been possible without Director R.J. Balaji and his team. As a director, he has held the spirit and vibe of the film single-handedly till date. Hats off!" the note read.
The statement further mentioned that the production house takes "full responsibility for all the commercial and financial aspects of the film", seemingly putting an end to questions surrounding accountability. The makers also extended their gratitude to the film's lead actor, Suriya, referring to him as 'The One', for his unwavering support.
What Did Tirupur Subramaniam Say About RJ Balaji Amid Karuppu's Success?
In an interview with Sri Sakthi Cinemas, where he serves as chairman, Tirupur Subramaniam addressed the delay in the release of Karuppu. Referring to the challenges faced ahead of the film's release, he said, “We know the kind of problems we faced two days before its release. The director should have come and faced it along with us, but instead, he chose to go to his car and record himself crying.”
In another interview, he criticised the fact that everyone other than the financiers was getting credit for the film's release. He said that apart from the producers and the film's financiers, only Suriya put in effort to ensure a smooth release by clearing last-minute financial dues.
