After months of speculation surrounding the release of Jana Nayagan, the film's Canadian distributor, York Cinemas, appears to have confirmed that the actor's much-awaited swansong will hit theatres on July 24. While the makers are yet to make an official announcement, the social media post has reignited excitement among fans eager to watch Vijay's final film before he steps away from cinema to focus on his full-time political career. If the date holds true, the long wait for one of Indian cinema's biggest releases is finally set to come to an end.

The buzz surrounding Jana Nayagan reached a new high after York Cinemas announced the film's Canada release on social media. The distributor wrote, "Finally! Our Own Thalapathy Vijay is ready to set the big screen on fire with #JanaNayagan. Canada Release by York Cinemas. Igniting screens from July 24." Although the production house has not officially confirmed the release date, the announcement is being seen as the strongest indication yet that the film is headed for a worldwide theatrical release on July 24.Take a look:

Jana Nayagan was originally slated to release on January 9 during the Pongal festival. However, the release was delayed after the film reportedly did not receive its censor certificate in time, leaving fans disappointed worldwide.

Jana Nayagan's long journey to release

According to reports, the makers have now implemented all the modifications suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The certification process has reportedly been completed, with the censor certificate expected to be issued shortly. The production house said a few days back to Indian Express, "The CBFC has completed its review and sent us the final list of revisions. Once we complete those changes, we are hopeful of receiving the certification and bringing the film to theatres." Once the formalities are complete, the makers are likely to officially unveil the new release date. The film is even more hyped as it is widely expected to be Vijay's final outing as a full-time actor before dedicating himself entirely to politics as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Despite facing a major setback earlier this year when an HD print of the film was leaked online weeks before the state elections, the demand for a theatrical release has been extremely high. Following an investigation, authorities arrested the alleged mastermind along with key suspects involved in the leak. Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Pooja Hegde as the female lead. The film also stars Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Narain in pivotal roles. Backed by KVN Productions, the film also boasts music by Anirudh Ravichander, whose collaborations with Vijay have consistently given us chartbuster albums.
