Jana Nayagan Release Update: CM Joseph Vijay’s Film Expected To Hit Screens In July Post CBFC Clearance – Report

Nadu CM, C Joseph Vijay’s last film as an actor, Jana Nayagan, is one of the most awaited offerings of 2026. It was supposed to release on January 9, 2026, in theatres, but due to a delay in censorship certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), it was postponed. After the former actor won the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026, hopes about Jana Nayagan's arrival increased. Amidst all, a recent report suggests that the Thalapathy Vijay starrer is expected to hit the screens in July 2026. As per industry sources, the clearance issue from the CBFC is likely to be resolved soon.

Is Jana Nayagan Releasing In July 2026?

According to an IANS report, the H Vinoth directed film might receive a clearance certificate from Censor Board this week. After that, the makers will work on arrangements for a release later this month. Once the certificates are issued, the discussions with overseas and regional distributors will begin. Reports suggest that Jana Nayagan makers are currently planning to release the film on July 16. But if that doesn’t work out, July 23 is said to be the next option. July 31 is also an option for the Vijay starrer, but that remains uncertain as his son Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut, Sigma, is releasing on the same day.

Apart from that, the makers will also consider the small films which are releasing on July 16 and July 23. If they couldn’t release the film in July, Jana Nayagan makers might target August 7, as it is open right now. The official confirmation about Jana Nayagan’s release date is yet to be made by the makers.

Why Was Jana Nayagan Delayed?

Before the election campaign, Vijay had announced that Jana Nayagan would be his last film as an actor. The CBFC didn’t give clearance to the film ahead of its original release date. The member from the committee alleged that some scenes from the film could hurt public sentiments. Later, the makers fought a legal battle against the censor board. After the censor board suggested Jana Nayagan be sent to the revisiting committee, KVN Productions sought the Madras High Court’s intervention to expedite the clearance process. Later, the makers decided to withdraw their petition after a month of legal disputes. Eventually, makers sent the film to the revisiting committee. However, the clearance is yet to be issued by the committee due to unknown reasons. In fact, Jana Nayagan’s HD print was also leaked on April 9, a few weeks before the election. After investigation, the mastermind and key suspects have been arrested.
