Instagram and Facebook experienced a major outage on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users unable to access parts of the platforms as normal. Users reported a range of problems, with Instagram appearing to be particularly affected. New posts failed to load for some users, while profile pages were not displaying correctly.The disruption did not appear to affect all features of the apps. Some sections of Instagram continued to function normally, although users subsequently encountered error messages when attempting to access certain content.The problems began at around 17:00 Eastern Time (21:00 GMT), according to outage-tracking website Down Detector. The site recorded a sharp increase in reports from users, with complaints emerging from multiple
countries around the world.At its peak, Down Detector showed roughly 10,000 reports relating to Instagram and more than 3,500 reports linked to Facebook. It was not immediately clear what had caused the disruption.Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, had not publicly commented on the outage at the time of writing.This is a Breaking Story and will be updated soon
