Will Compton spent nine seasons in the NFL, playing linebacker for Washington, the Tennessee Titans, and the Las Vegas Raiders before retiring in 2021. Since leaving football, he has built a strong media presence as co-host of the popular sports podcast Bussin' With the Boys alongside former Titans teammate Taylor Lewan, with whom he also played during his time in Tennessee. The podcast is known for hosting big-name athletes and celebrities as guests.

Through it, Compton developed a close relationship with Travis Kelce, who has appeared as a guest multiple times over the years. The two have also worked together at Kelce's annual Tight End University event, where current and former NFL tight ends gather each offseason to train and connect. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got married at Madison Square Garden on July 3, with around 1,100 guests in attendance. Compton was not one of them, and he addressed the snub on a call with Dave Portnoy during the Wake Up Barstool show. Speaking from Italy, he said he did not think much of it at first, but his reaction changed once photos from the wedding started circulating online. Seeing attendees like NFL officiating executive Dean Blandino left him visibly surprised, especially since fellow tight end stars George Kittle and Greg Olsen were both invited. Compton said he intends to speak with Kelce directly to find out why he was left off the list, though the call cut out before he could share more.
