Nayagan, Vijay's final film before fully committing to politics, was released in cinemas on July 23 amid much fanfare. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film, partly inspired by Bhagavanth Kesari, revolves around themes of patriotism, women’s empowerment and social justice. During screenings, fans danced to Vijay's Thalapathy Kacheri track before many were left in tears during the end credits, marking the end of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's illustrious film career. Among those who became emotional were Vijay's cousin, actor Vikranth, and his family.

CM Vijay's Cousin Vikranth Breaks Down During Jana Nayagan Screening

Taking to Instagram, Vikranth shared an image from the film's opening title card, which introduces Vijay as 'Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. Joseph Vijay.' He also posted a video of himself and his family breaking down in tears, accompanied by a heartfelt note expressing his love and admiration for his cousin. "Emotions are high. Sad that it’s his last film but he is meant for greater things. @actorvijay anna will miss u on screen #onelastdance #jananayagan," read his post.

Previously, in an exclusive conversation with Zoom, Vikranth also spoke about Vijay's transition from cinema to politics.Expressing his happiness over Vijay's new role, Vikranth said, “Words aren't enough to say how proud we are of him as a family. We are elated about the love people have given him. For the last 35 years, people have been showing so much love on him, and I am sure they will continue to do so. I am confident that he will work towards the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. All of Tamil Nadu prays for him.”

When asked about his fondest childhood memory with Vijay, he said, “Our childhood was good, but when Anna entered films and tasted success he began seeing the love people have for him...it is that moment that he decided he will give it back to them.”

Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled to release on January 9 this year. However, the film became entangled in certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), delaying its release by seven months. The setback was intensified when pirated clips and eventually a full print of the film began circulating online before it had even received its censor certificate.The film features a star-studded ensemble cast including Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. It is produced by Venkat K. Narayana under the KVN Productions banner, marking the production house's foray into Tamil cinema.
