The news was particularly unexpected as he had attended actress Khushbu Sundar's daughter's wedding in Goa just days earlier. Several leading personalities, including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and former Chief Minister MK Stalin, paid their final respects to the veteran filmmaker. Now days after his passing, K Bhagyaraj's final wish has continued to make a lasting impact. Honoring his long-standing prior pledge, his family fulfilled his final wish by donating his eyes.
K. Bhagyaraj Continues to Inspire as His Final Wish Helps Two Visually Impaired People
It was earlier revealed that
K Bhagyaraj had pledged to donate his eyes during his lifetime, following which a medical team visited his residence and retrieved both corneas for transplantation after his passing. It has now emerged that the donated tissue was preserved and transported promptly to ensure it could be used without delay.
According to reports, the first corneal transplant was performed on June 29, just two days after Bhagyaraj's demise, while the second was successfully carried out on July 2.
K Bhagyaraj's Final Letter
Last week, K. Bhagyaraj's office released the veteran filmmaker's final letter, in which the letter mentioned about the values that guided his life. In the two-page note, he wrote, "Happiness comes from making people around you happy," adding that the love and support of his fans had always been the force behind his journey. K Bhagyaraj also reaffirmed his wish to donate his eyes, writing, "I have kept my eyes alive just for your loving gaze. Please take care of them." K Bhagyaraj was laid to rest at the Besant Nagar crematorium in Chennai. Bhagyaraj was accorded full state honours. Radhika Sarathkumar and Suhasini Maniratnam were seen expressing their displeasure with members of the media at K. Bhagyaraj's funeral, accusing them of disrupting the proceedings. They requested for privacy.
Over a career spanning more than five decades, Bhagyaraj delivered several acclaimed films, with Andha 7 Naatkal, Mundhanai Mudichu, Chinna Veedu and Enga Chinna Rasa among his most celebrated directorial ventures. He also made his mark in Hindi cinema by directing Amitabh Bachchan's Aakhree Raasta (1986). K Bhagyaraj is survived by his wife, former actress Poornima Bhagyaraj, and their children, actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Saranya. Beyond filmmaking, he also served as the editor of the Tamil weekly magazine Bhagya and authored several novels.
