Meta has introduced Muse Image, its latest AI image-generation tool that lets users create AI-generated visuals through WhatsApp, the Meta AI app and Instagram Stories. However, the launch has also triggered fresh privacy concerns. One feature allows anyone to generate AI images using photos from public Instagram accounts simply by mentioning a username in the prompt. Even more notably, the account owner isn't notified when this happens. Here's everything you need to know about Muse Image and how you can stop Meta AI from using your Instagram content. Why Users Are Raising Privacy ConcernsMeta says Muse Image can use public Instagram photos as "social context" to create personalised AI-generated images, including invitations, creative concepts
and other visual content. To do this, another user only needs to tag a public Instagram account while writing a prompt. The feature has sparked criticism online because public Instagram accounts are enrolled by default. Users must manually disable the setting if they don't want their content being used for AI-generated images. The issue has become even more sensitive following recent controversies involving AI-generated images on social media. Earlier this year, Elon Musk's Grok AI faced similar criticism after some users generated inappropriate AI images of people without their consent, prompting X to restrict parts of the feature to paid subscribers.Meta says Muse Image does not use photos from private Instagram accounts or accounts belonging to users under the age of 18.How To Stop Meta AI From Using Your Instagram PhotosIf you have a public Instagram account and don't want Meta AI to use your photos for Muse Image, you can turn the feature off by following these steps:-Open Instagram and go to your Profile.-Tap the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner.-Scroll down to Sharing and Reuse.-Find the option that says "Allow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features on Meta."-Turn off the toggles for both Posts and Reels.-Another option is to switch your Instagram profile from Public to Private, which also prevents Meta AI from accessing your content for future AI image generation. As per Meta, disabling the setting or making your account private will stop your public posts from being used in future AI-generated images. However, the Instagram-maker also notes that any AI images created before you changed the setting will not be removed automatically.
