Akhil Akkineni Reveals He Is Renouncing His US Citizenship

Talking to VK in his show Raw Talks, Akhil Akkineni said he will renounce his citizenship soon. "I am an American citizen, and I have an American passport, but I'm in the process of giving it up. In a few months, I'll be completely Indian," Akhil said. The statement was appreciated by fans. They praised Akhil for opening up about such a personal decision. Although he was born in the United States and automatically acquired American citizenship by birth, Akhil has spent most of his life in India and remains focused on building his acting career in Telugu cinema.

Despite being born in the United States, Akhil was raised in India. He is of Telugu descent through his father, while his mother has Irish and Bengali ancestry. He is the grandson of legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao and the half-brother of actor Naga Chaitanya.

Why does Akhil Akkineni hold US citizenship?

Akhil Akkineni was born on April 8, 1994, in San Jose, California, to actors Nagarjuna and Amala Akkineni, automatically making him an American citizen by birth. In an earlier interview, Nagarjuna revealed that the couple had travelled to the United States during the final months of Amala's pregnancy so they could spend quality time together before welcoming their child.

Interestingly, the couple initially believed they were expecting a baby girl after a prenatal gender test in the US. Excited by the news, they bought dresses, toys and other baby essentials, and even booked their return tickets to India under the name Nikitha —one of Nagarjuna's favourite names. However, just two days before giving birth, Amala told Nagarjuna that she had a strong feeling they were actually expecting a boy. Her intuition proved right when Akhil was born.On the professional front, Akhil is enjoying a career high with Lenin, directed by Murali Kishor Abburu which marks a major turning point in his career.
