The Big Bang Theory's Success Made Jim Parsons Stressed And 'Miserable'; Here's Why

Jim Parsons became a household name with The Big Bang Theory and won four Emmy Awards for his portrayal as the fastidious physicist Sheldon Cooper. But in a new interview, the actor shared that he was overworked and very stressed during the height of his fame. Looking back, Parsons felt he was miserable. The Big Bang Theory was on the air for 12 seasons; the cast, made up of Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar, all became big stars after their CBS comedy series became the number one show on US TV.

Why Jim Parsons was 'miserable' during the peak of The Big Bang Theory

During his appearance on the All Out with Jon Dean podcast, Jim Parsons revealed that at some of his life's best moments, he was "miserable". He shared, "I was not happy. I was stressed." The 53-year-old will forever be known as Sheldon Cooper, having popularised the role on the CBS series and narrating its spinoff series Young Sheldon.

Dealing with the pressure of being the lead on the hit show, Parsons said that he handled the success and good things that came from it by overworking. He revealed his work ethic turned into "obsessive behaviour". The actor added, "Yes, I was disciplined. Yes, I had a good work ethic, but a lot of it was because it was kind of OCD in nature."And while he wouldn't be where he is now because of The Big Bang Theory, Parsons admitted, "I wouldn’t do that again and for any amount of money." He also shared that he now has a better and healthier relationship to success and fame as an actor. Besides four Emmys, Parsons also won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Sheldon Cooper. He played the role from 2007 to 2019, with his character going on to win the Nobel Prize in Physics.
