Khat singer Navjot Ahuja discusses social media virality on World Music Day 2026
Celebrating
World Music Day, Navjot told
Zoom that he grew up listening to Bollywood music and rock bands like The Local Train. When asked how social media virality has changed the meaning of music for him, the singer said, “Social media virality has changed the way music is discovered and consumed, but it hasn’t changed what music means to me or anything about my writing process. For me, music is still a form of expression and a way of processing emotions. Virality can help a song reach more people, and that’s a beautiful thing, but I don’t think the value of a song should be determined by how many views or shares it gets. Music, to me, is about honesty and connection, not trends and algorithms.”

Crediting music for helping him understand himself better, Navjot added, “It has also taught me patience; music is a lifelong practice. But most importantly, music has made me more honest with myself. When I write a song, I can’t hide from what I truly feel. Over the years, that has helped me become more aware, more accepting, and more at peace with who I am.”
