On
SonyLIV's Undekhi, Surya Sharma may play the ruthless Rinku Atwal but the actor is a real family man at heart. The Brown actor only watches his shows with wife Manasi and his family. Last year, when shooting the drama thriller, Surya brought along his son Deva and Manasi to the set for the first time and having them around after filming was a relief for him. The Undekhi star also credited the audience for the longevity of the series and shared whether it would return for a fifth season.
Why Surya Sharma felt relief on Undekhi set
While speaking to
Zoom, Surya shared that he liked watching his shows only when they were released to the public. He watches them at home with Manasi and his family but he does get critical at times. The actor stated, "Sometimes I feel it could be better because I'm never satisfied with my performance. I never watch a show by myself. But I think it's good also that I watch shows with my family. I don't go out. I don't throw a screening; I don't do parties. I just sit at home and watch the show." Last year, he and his wife welcomed their first son Deva and for the first time made the decision to take them along on set for the long Undekhi shoot. It would be tough if he didn't do this. Surya shared that he and Manasi are hands-on parents and want to devote a lot of their time to their son till he starts school.
He recalled, "I was contemplating travelling to Himachal and not meeting family, especially my son Deva and obviously [thinking] how Manasi would handle things. We all have help but we are so involved that we like do a lot of things for the baby. I asked Manasi, 'Would you like to come along and give me company on Undekhi set and we'll take care of Deva again the way we are doing here?'The actor continued, "I think i made the right decision because coming back to him after shooting such an intense show was kind of a relief. I used to come back to the hotel in costume and Undekhi costume there's some energy of the character - the jacket, printed shirts, and the locket. But as soon as I would meet Deva... somewhere it was very helpful for me to come back to my son and my family and meet them because you can't think about the character 24 hours. That character is carrying so much stress, so if you also carry it and go to sleep, the next day also, you have to get up and go to the shoot."
Returning for Undekhi Season 5
When asked if the long-running series would return for a fifth season, Surya was keen to jump right back in. He shared, "Definitely, audience
ne itna pyaar diya hai aur Undekhi audience
ke pyaar ke wajah se aage gaya hai [the audience has given so much love and the show has grown because of them]. I strongly believe that audience
jitna pyaar deti hai, woh sabko dikhta hai [whatever love the audience has given, everyone can see]. Fingers crossed and I'm also waiting for the update because it is a hit again."
Both of Surya's new series,
Brown and
Undekhi Season 4, are now streaming on OTT. He plays police officer Arjun Sinha in the Zee5 thriller opposite Karisma Kapoor.
