Looking for Rs 100 crore debut

The film had a blockbuster opening on July 23, after it garnered more than 15 crore in India through advance bookings while the pre-sales and block bookings worldwide surpassed Rs 30 crore, Asianet reported. The exhibitors are looking forward to houseful theatres during the opening weekend with lakhs of shows scheduled across India, leading to heavy spot bookings.

Record-breaking advance bookings

The film has already created a record by selling one million advance tickets on BookMyShow and became just the fifth Tamil film to do so. The website revealed on Thursday that Jana Nayagan blocked 1.2 million tickets. Through social media, it declared, "Mass beyond measure. Love beyond numbers! 1.2 million advance bookings and the hype keeps getting stronger."For Vijay, this is quite an impressive achievement. After Leo and The GOAT, now Jana Nayagan has given the actor three films that crossed the one million advance ticket mark on the platform, a record that no other Tamil star has matched.Advance booking picked up an incredible pace in the last few days leading to release. Once the marketing was cranked up and the release formalities were done, the daily ticket sales went through the roof. The film sold over 300,000 tickets in a day before release.

Tamil version becomes nation demand

The Tamil version has already seen major bookings and the film has dominated ticket sales across India. The film is said to have earned more than Rs 10 crore in pre-sales with more than four lakh tickets, as stated by trade tracker Sacnilk. The Telugu and Hindi dubbed versions also contributed to the total across the country, but on a smaller scale.The film has been in strong demand overseas, too. Advance ticket sales in North America crossed the $350,000 mark, and the Middle East saw impressive sales ahead of the release, further underlining Vijay's continued global appeal.Although reports have emerged that a leaked version of the film was circulating online before its release, it seems the incident has done little to dent audience enthusiasm, with fans continuing to support the film in theatres.
