Comedian
Samay Raina returned with the second season of India's Got Latent, and the first episode was no short of conversation starters online. The launch episode, which aired on June 20, featured actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as special panellists to promote their upcoming YRF Spy Universe film, Alpha. Known for his spontaneous humour and sharp observations, Samay brought his trademark style to the episode and delivered several jokes that quickly caught viewers' attention. This included a playful dig at Alia Bhatt, which many viewers took to be a reference to the talk surrounding her recent appearance at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
Samay's cheeky tease on Alia's Cannes appearance
Samay, while introducing the guests, lauded Alia's achievements, including her successful career, awards and appearances on major international platforms. Then he asked jokingly how somebody of her stature got on
India's Got Latent. "
Kahan Cannes, kahan Latent. But, yahan cameras aap pe hain (Cannes is one thing, Lattent is another; the focus here is entirely on commerce)," he joked at one point, earning laughter from the audience as he compared the glamour of Cannes to the unconventional feel of the show. The quip appeared to be a reference to online chatter earlier this year when some social media users said that international photographers at Cannes were not familiar with Alia and turned their attention elsewhere during parts of the festival. The incident did lead to an online debate, but was mostly driven by social media commentary.
Alia's comeback reply
Alia Bhatt wasn't caught off guard, though. She responded playfully. "I think we can all genuinely say this with absolute clarity and be so so grateful for all the laughs that we have had thanks to… Kapil Sharma," she joked and the crowd applauded.Samay was quick to respond with another jibe, referring to a previous awards show appearance and keeping the banter going. He referred to a recent awards hosting stint, and asked, "Yahan aap funny ho gayi, Zakir bhai ke time pe kya hua tha? (You're being funny here. What happened back when Zakir Bhai was around?)"The exchange set the tone for the rest of the episode, with both Alia and Sharvari lapping up the comedian's unpredictable style. Though Sharvari wasn't spared either. At one point, Samay introduced her as Alia's "plus one," which caused another round of laughter from the audience.
India's Got Latent Season 2's dual-platform launch
One of the biggest changes this season is the show's simultaneous release on both YouTube and Netflix. The episodes are coming out in the same formats on both platforms, so viewers can choose their preferred viewing method. Samay has said the show's core identity is still intact, even after the transition to a global streaming platform. The comedian made it clear that the series would not take the path of a toned-down format but would continue to provide its uncensored humour and unfiltered conversations. While Netflix offers a seamless viewing experience, YouTube still provides the interactive community experience that first helped build the show's popularity.
