Nolan's name is enough to draw people to theatres, even in India. The ace Hollywood director's latest offering The Odyssey has taken a thunderous start in the country. Featuring a star-studded cast of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, alongside Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron, The Odyssey has also beaten Chris Nolan's own Oppenheimer in terms of the opening day collection.
The Odyssey Takes A Smashing Start In India

The Odyssey crossed the Rs 17 crore net mark (at the time of writing) on its opening day in India. With more than 6500 shows across the country on Day 1, the mythic epic action recorded a tremendous response both in the North and South belts. It went past Oppenheimer, which collected Rs 14.45 crore in India on its first day.The maximum chunk of the opening day total has come from the English shows, while Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubbed versions contributed the rest. With no competition from any new Indian release, The Odyssey is poised to grow further over the weekend.
Experts Predicted A Strong Opening For The Odyssey
While speaking with Zoom prior to the release, industry tracker and expert Ramesh Bala explained why The Odyssey is expected to be huge in India. He said, "Christopher Nolan today enjoys the kind of trust and anticipation that is usually reserved for the biggest Indian filmmakers," adding that 'the film has the potential to open in the Rs 18-22 crore nett range on Day 1 and target a Rs 65-75 crore nett opening weekend in India'.Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that The Odyssey is going to do very well in India, calling the response it has generated terrific. He noted that Christopher Nolan already has a strong market in the country, which he believes will naturally translate into a strong performance for the film. According to him, advance bookings have been superb, and he is confident the film will also be well appreciated by audiences.

The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's famous poem of the same name The story follows Odysseus (Matt Damon), the heroic king of Ithaca, who, after the Trojan War, begins his journey home to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus, played by Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland respectively. However, the meddling of the Gods and a string of dangerous adventures turn his trip into a ten-year struggle to reach home.Along the way, Odysseus faces mythical creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the sorceress Circe. Lupita Nyong'o takes on the role of Helen of Troy, while Zendaya plays the goddess Athena, alongside Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron.
