Tom Holland Reveals Peter Parker Is At 'Darkest Chapter Of His Life' In Spider-Man Brand New Day

The fourth film starring Tom Holland follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and the actor reveals that Peter Parker and his alter ego, Spider-Man, are experiencing two different lives in the upcoming film. At the end of the third film, which saw a multiverse battle of villains along with Tobey Maguire's and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, the decision is taken to cast a spell erasing everyone’s memories of Peter Parker. The multiverse rift is then closed by Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange.

Tom Holland shares update on Peter Parker's dark state

The cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day was interviewed by Happy Sad Confused podcaster Josh Horowitz, and the interview unearthed some interesting details about the state of the superhero. Star Tom Holland shared that Peter Parker is "at the beginning of the darkest chapter of his life" in Brand New Day.

In the global press tour, Holland shared that Peter represents a cautionary tale for the dangers of living a life alone and not having a community or friends. He explained, "A lesson he learned from Andrew's character in the previous movie is sometimes the bravest thing you can do is ask for help, and I think he is actively ignoring that advice. And it’s having a profound effect on his life as a human being." Spider-Man, on the other hand, is a different story. Holland added, "[Spider-Man] is thriving. We're probably seeing the most truthful version of what Spider-Man means to New York City. The smashing of those two worlds is such a fun thing to play with."

Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo are all reprising their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova is also rumoured to reprise her role in the feature film, while Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III, Eman Esfandi, and Liza Colón-Zayas join as new characters. The post-credits sequence is also going to have a big hint for Avengers: Doomsday, which releases on December 18, 2026.

Director Cretton is no stranger to the MCU, having directed both the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) and the recent Disney+ series Wonder Man starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley. The screenplay of Brand New Day is co-written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
