Alia
Bhatt, daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and veteran actress Soni Razdan, often gets targeted amid the never-ending nepotism debate. From claims of her being easily given opportunities to mocking her performances, trolls leave no stone unturned. However, mother Soni Razdan has a befitting reply for Alia’s critics. According to the Brown actress, it is not Alia’s fault that she was born into a film family and auditioned for Karan Johar’s Student of the Year, which marked her debut in Bollywood. She has proven her prowess as an actress, and that is the only thing working in her favour, said Razdan.
Alia Bhatt's Mother Soni Razdan On Nepotism Debate
In an exclusive interview with
Zoom, Soni said, "
Alia can't help whose child she is. That's not her fault. I was not a product of the industry. I struggled as an actor, as a human being, to come into this industry, and I'm not even half as successful or quarter as successful as many other successful women of my time."She added, "The other thing I have to say is that the world does not owe you a living."
Razdan further said that when she came into the industry, there were 101 people who were children of those already in the industry, but she did not think about it as that was not her focus. She said that if she thought about it, she would not be able to do what she had to do, so she focused on her own work. She added that it is very easy for people to blame others for their lack of success and noted, "From the word go, there is nothing fair about the world. The world is an unfair place."Talking about Alia’s evolution over the years, she said that her journey as an actress has been remarkable because right from the beginning she was unusual in her choices. She added that after Student of the Year, most actors would not have chosen a film like Highway, which Alia did immediately, and that it defined her and set her apart from her peers. She said that it showed Alia was someone who wanted to be taken seriously as a performer and not just appear in glamorous roles. She further added that Alia was there to work as a performing artist and hone her craft, and that she considered Highway as her acting school. She also said it was wonderful that
Imtiaz Ali saw her talent and gave her that opportunity.

"In a certain sense, she's in a way been lucky, yes. No doubt luck plays a huge part, but she's also got something to back up that luck, and if you didn't have it, it wouldn't work. So I guess it is what it is. It's never going to be easy, ever, ever, ever. But as I said before, the world does not owe you a living. Stop expecting it to put everything in your path like this. It will never," said Soni.In the same interview, Soni also reacted to the trolling around her daughter's Cannes appearance and more.
