ARMYs react to the different spelling
A post on X (formerly Twitter) went viral that read, "So "Jungkook" is just a stage name? Many users came our to discuss whether Jungkook was really a stage name or if there was a catch. One comment read, "But isn't a stage name just to make it easier for us to call them, right? Isn't it true that the Hangul writing, when transliterated, is indeed written like that, but it's read the same way anyway, yeah?"
Another post said, "It's always been 정-jeong 국 guk but i-armys and medias spell his name Jungkook. Why do u call it stage name when it just sounds the same?"A fan explained, "Jungkook's actual Hangul is 정국, which is read as Jeongguk (전 is the surname), oo is u, and for 어 (eo), when read outside Korea, it's often changed to u to make it easier— for example, you know the Korean resto Chunggiwa? Its Hangul is 청기와 = cheonggiwa."
Jungkook or Jeongguk?
Jungkook's Korean name is written as 전정국. When romanised directly from Korean to English, it becomes Jeon Jeong-guk. Most fans however know and use the name Jungkook which is the accepted spelling and the one he uses as his stage name.
The difference is a matter of Korean romanisation. The syllable 정 (Jeong) is frequently spelt Jung in English, and 국 (Guk) can also appear as Kook. Other Korean names have similar examples, such as the surname Jessica Jung, where 정 is rendered as “Jung.”Jeongguk , Jeong-guk , Jungkook , Jung Kook - they are all spelling conventions for the same Korean name. As it's his official stage name and the pronunciation fans tend to use, "Jungkook" became the common spelling all over the world.
